Personally, I don't think that 14 is the worst thing in the world. It's not healthy, and should probably be considered criminal, but I find it stupid that this woman gets off with no jail time while a man in the same situation wouldn't (especially given the student-teacher relationship).

First off, the underlying assumption seems to be that a man would be using the girl for sexual gratification whereas the woman isn't (hah!). Even if this were the case, she's certainly using the child for something. To feel loved? Who cares. The crime is the same. A child who is too young to consent to sexual activity has been molested.

If you have one standard for women, you should have one for men. What if a 14 year old girl really wanted sex and did it with a 26 year old man? Why should that be a greater penalty than the other way around?

NOw, the real kicker would be a 14 year old male and a male teacher- THAT wuld certainly get the male teacher castrated.

One has to wonder then of sex between a 14 year old girl and her female teacher....would that even get to court?

Which just goes to show that the leniency being shown female child-molestors has everything to do with sympathy for the offender, not the victim (despite the statements of some people here). Never underestimate the power of moral righteousness at crimes which are sexually motivated...

I think its freudian- Males penetrate, females don't (unless using a tool, but then its probably sodomy). It's worst to be penetrated than to penetrate. Plus there is no risk of pregnancy for a male.

Pregnancy is a civil matter. If a male teacher knocks up a female student then he'll be liable for the kid's upkeep.

I think it's part Freudian too. But I also think a large part of it has to do with sexual puritanism. The male acts from lust, the female from emotional needs. Acting from lust makes you a sick pervert. Acting from emotional needs makes you sympathetic.

That does not take into account though the added stress on the female, beyond 9 months of pregnancy itself, the actual taking care of the child, depending on whether they keep it. Even if they abort, you can certainly claim that the emotional toll on a woman form a pregnancy will always be greater than that on a male. I mean, what you are talking about it suffering from the wallet.
