Honestly? I've already been moving off of Sony, and when there's a suitable alternative, such as Samsung, I tend to go for Samsung.

This was before the rootkit debacle.

Now, with the rootkit, I'll still tend to buy Samsung over Sony.

Having done some of the required reading, let me see if I've got this straight:

Some Sony/BMG audio CDs contained software that Sony claimed was nothing more than digital rights management software. That software was installed was installed without consent of or disclosure to the user, and remained on the user's computer even if the user declined the EULA. The software spied on the user's listening habits and reported them back to Sony, limited the devices on which the digital content could be played, hid its own existence, and could crash the computer and disable the CD drive if removed. Not to mention the fact that removal or disabling of the software could constitute a violation of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. The EULA only granted a license to use the "digital content," including the music, limited Sony's liability to $5.00 regardless of the amount of damage to the user's computer (or other damages), required the user to delete any copies of the digital content in the event of personal bankruptcy or loss of the original CD, waived the user's right to a jury trial on any dispute arising under the EULA or the software and required the user to install any and all updates that Sony put out. Then if the user wanted to get rid of the offending software, which might have violated federal law anyway, they had to download more sofware from Sony, give a bunch of personal information and agree to allow Sony to share that info?!? And in doing so, great big, gaping security holes in the user's computer are opened up? Does that about sum it up? Have I missed anything major?

Geez, if I'm even close, I'll just have to pass on Sony.

I thought you wrote "piss" the first time I read it.

Which is probably more appropiate for a lot of people
