No, but not just for this.

For a good pair of inexpensive, long-lived earbuds, it's hard to beat Sony's $10 pair. Over 10-15 years, I've only gone through 3 such pairs.



But I ain't never going to buy a cd from them after this fiasco.

Instead of going with the flow, they fight against it. As was evident with their use of the memory stick a few years ago instead of the industry standard Compact Flash cards.

It's no surprise with their media companies that they are using this same protective approach.

What's sad is that they fail at it every time they try it.

Great post, and absolutely true. They consistently aim for the Macintosh business model of proprietary systems, media and peripherals. It pisses me off all the time, because throughout my lifetime Sony has made some of the highest quality equipment in a large number of areas. I only own one Sony product, a Hi-8 video camera that doesn't have any proprietary components that I use. The vast majority of the time I buy someone else's product that uses industry standards and allows me some choice of media / peripherals / adapters / upgrades.

Plenty of good electronics. Panasonic makes a "smaller" television to rival Sony's.
Mitubishi makes a "large screen" with which Sony can't compete.
Stereo equipment? Don't need Sony.

Just buy a second hand POS computer and play their CDs from there. network it with your main PC if you want, and pray they don't come up with Network aware hacks next.

Or... treat them like the dogs they are. I am against piracy, but would have zero reservations about it when this company is involved.

I can't say I'll be buying any of their cds in the future. But then again weren't some of the problem ones, Celin Dion and such. IMO, those people got what they deserved.

I usually don't buy that many Sony products. I usually buy such things where a company has a reputation for making the best type of the product. For cameras: Olympus or Canon. Computers: Dell, Toshiba, or IBM. DVD/VHS players: Sony or Phillips. While Sony may have some problems with industry standards, but they usually produce high quality products. If they are losing that now...
