Danish media report that Shimon Peres has been offered a seat in the cabinet if Kamina forms the government after the election. Also that polls indicate "a landslide victory for the partnership of Sharon and Peres."

I've long believed that Sharon is probably the only leader at present who could see the peace process to a succesful conclusion, so here's hoping those predictions hold true.

And that the pair's combined age of 160 won't prevent them from making it through the campaign... You'll need some strong political figures a little younger before long, me thinks.

a poll showing Likud with single digits

I don't know who will be the prime minister in 2006, but I know who's the only one with a chance to be in the following elections.

Which is even worse, how much of a difference can a few millionaires make? Most of the taxes come from the rich-but-not-super-rich part of the population. So if "we" is millionaires, his policy wont cause any meaningfull change.

If you think that every POS engineer that gets this 20k cash is successful, or is considered the bad guy, you're deeply misguided.

In a population where 40% of the people didnt even get a bagrut, making 20kNIS a month gets your family singlehandedly(that is, even without working spouses) very close to the top 10% of the income earners. This is success.

When you attribute this success not to education and hard work but to luck, you basically say that the successful man doesnt really deserve his better condition. After all, luck is the only difference and it's pretty hard to justify one person living better than the other only because he was more lucky.

Taxes aren't about punishment, or reward, or any other fetishist **** anyhow. It's about resources that we need to get stuff done -noone should feel bad about it, because it's not personal. I hope I pay 50% tax some day, too

            Commie drivel.
How is taking someone's earned money against his will and giving them towards causes he may oppose not punishment?

It's a very simple fact of life. A person who gets 20k-25k NIS per month won't have a life changing experience if he gets an extra grand. However, two people who get 4k each, will experience a dramatic rise in their fortunes if they get 500 NIS each per month.

That extra grand is not yours to give.

And they won't buy some imported stuff like the engineer - Lower income brackets spend more on things that aren't imported - and in this way you support the local economy, as well.

I dont see how you, as a utilitarian, can justify any kind of preffered treatment to local producers without attaching more importance to the well being of Israelis over, say, Italians.

Actually he was referring to the employers and the minimum wage, I suppose, but carry on your rant.

Boohoo. We're all very successful. Get the medal on the way out, Eli. What's your point?

Luck is far from being just coincidence in life, but Luck is by far your starting point in Life. if you fail to see how you growing up in a relatively good nurturing family isn't lucky, that's your problem.

And that air ain't yours to breathe. Remember - property rights are a tool, not a goal.

Artful dodger you are - aren't we discussing economical policies that the Israeli government should make for the sake of it's people? If you want to get into an ethical discussion, then no, there is no difference, usually.

Yes, ancient societies didn't have taxes. And people who don't make enough money to pay taxes aren't living.
