A semi fallen papist? Is that right Michael? Might I suggest that is because the papacy is inherently contradictory. Lets see what HASN'T it contradicted itself on since 1965? Since its easier to focus on the array of contradictions I'll take a stab on this wider path (the wide papal path to destruction????)-

1. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM- Vatican II completely contradicted the "infallible" condemnations of Pius IX and X against religious liberty.

2. EVOLUTION- Pius XII paved the way for embracing evolution, which is clearly against the unanimous consensus of the previous eras of Catholic theologians- declared by Pius IX to be infallible.

3. SALVATION OUTSIDE THE CHURCH- The great theologian Tillemont declared that ALL of the pagans before Christ were damned, because they were born before the time of the redeemer. The great theologian and Doctor Augustine declared that all of those who die without having heard the gospel message will still enter the fires of ETERNAL DAMNATION on account of original sin alone, including young children who were unable to understand the gospel on account of their youth. This was accepted by all of the Popes until Pope Pius IX decreed an exception via the theological route known as "invincible ignorance". Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus was then totally reversed, and now since Vatican II the Papal whore declares that members of any religion anywhere can be saved as long as they are honestly following their conscience! Like a superwhore she travels along with the whoredoms of whatever age she belongs to! The ultimate Great Apostate!

4. DEATH PENALTY- John Paul II, the superliberal Pope to end the liberal 20th century- declared that the death penalty should be abolished and hinted in his speeches that it was not merely a convention of the age, but that it was INTRINSICALLY IMMORAL. Talk about a contradistinction to the Great Papal Bull which advocated the tortures of the inquisitions issued just before the Albigensian genocide crusades!
