  • 1-0 Democracy vs police state

I started a thread a while back on the uk governments potentialy draconian ID cards. Strangely that thread is now no-where to be found

anyway latest bits of good news on all this can be found here:

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Its hearting to find that the so called 'out of touch' part of our democratic process that is the house of lords voted this bill down. So a for the wigs and landed gentry.

I wonder if Tony Blair will try to further dissolve the powers of the house of lords after this defeat of his agenda? or maybe he'll read the writting on the wall - that for the most part british people dont want a shiny new labour police state to live under thanks
'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.

Identity cards are very useful, I would not be able to prove my existence to anyone else otherwise

It's ok being filmed if they don't know who you are!

Lately I've been seeing the benefits of the House of Lords more and more. It's useful to have a delaying mechanism that's not directly tied into the whims of the electorate or the current government.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                    -Richard Dawkins

And if the price is that a few toffs get to torture a few more foxes for a few more months, taint the end of the world!

I don't mind cameras in public places or national ID cards.

In fact, I think they might be good security measures if implemented properly.

it's ok as long as you like people with fake passports exploding themselves in your mass transit system
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
