Same here. While the programs aren't perfect (I hate how Word loses my margins after lists), calling them "crap" is ic
Simply because of the price. Office XcraP and Windows XcraP are bad because it costs too much for you to implement them in your enterprise. Because of license agreement stuff, because of the huge vulnerability these systems have, because of the buggy systems and because of hardcore system requirements. You can run Linux well on a P2, but you just can't run Windows XP on the same computer! You need to spend a lot of money just to run a buggy and vulnerable system, and if you try to run older NT4 systems just because you don't want to spend any money on newer gadgets then you will get no customer support from Microsoft nor any critical updates. They just ignore you, customer.

So, you really waste a lot of $$$ with Microsoft when you could be using Linux and open-source softwares. Or else you could be running a Mac network, but there is absolutely no compatibilty for the Mac. The Macintosh is great, Linux is great.

But in the end, I think compatiblity gets every user stuck on Microcrap systems. Just look at Civ, for example. It took years before Firaxis said a word about expansion packs for the Macintosh. And Linux users are not in a better situation.

If you can't afford a couple hundred dollars to buy the best office suite available, the problem isn't with the office suite, it's with your enterprise. It's not making enough money.

Perhaps you oughtta find a new line of business?

First of all, more expensive does not equate to overpriced.

Second of all, I would say the price difference itself is not that great.

Third of all, I'd say the difference that does exist is more than made up by superior design as far as the actual machine's appearance goes.

Now let the stale cookie cutter trolls commence

"A new line of business"? Quite logic that even if you have trillions in your bank account you won't be going to waste your money, especially if you have an enterprise and will probably need it in the future. So, why spend more money in something vulnerable and buggy when you can spend less in something that works?

                The overpriced Macintosh?
Expensive, but it does the job. The bad thing is to spend your money on somerthing that will only render more annoyances in the future.

I dunno. There are like 20 people here using OOo and nobody has any big problems with it.

Why do I want to pay $$$ for a pice of bloatware when I have FOSS programs to use? I even donate to the cause, but giving them $100 for 5 copies, say, is a far superior deal than paying Microsoft.

Not to mention that i have issues with the .doc format.

                      1) What bloatware?

                      2) OO.org sucks ass. Particularly compared to MS Office.

                      3) What issues? That it's information that wants to be free?

For starters, .doc files corrupt over time. I have seen that numerous times.

Notice the reasoning I provided earlier in the thread.
