        1. It takes forver to load.
        2. It takes forever to save.
        3. It is only somewhat compatible with .doc. Add in excel spreadsheets or charts and *poof* it's fscked up.
        4. It almost immediately breaks any .doc file you load by putting in "features that are not supported by .doc". This is similar to 3 - only partly compatible with .doc.

#2 is a major killer for me, because I save compulsively.

Man, back in the day wordperfect was my favorite, favorite, favorite word processor. Such a great program.

              Not in my experience.

OOo doesn't automatically "put in features that are not supported by .doc."

I am not sure if this is at all possible, either, given the mind-boggling array of "features" present in MS Word.

To do both, yes, IME. YMMV.

                Not in my experience.

Whenever I've loaded a file that has some Excel object in it into OpenOffice, it's been messed up. It also doesn't always get formatting right.

OOo doesn't automatically "put in features that are not supported by .doc."

Every time I load a .doc file in it, it complains when I try to save (in .doc format) - even if I haven't made a single change.

Also, its interface feels slow and unresponsive.

Yes, it always does that. No, it doesn't mean OOo has done something to your document. You can safely ignore the warning.

                        I tend to agree, Kuci.

                          And me.

Like Kuci I compulsively save and it's a nightmare! Even OOo 2.0. It's a god awful piece of code and the likes of UR only seem to support it because of some puerile attachment to open source software.

I use openoffice.org 2.0. Much better than Office XcraP and free. And I don't like Office 2003 either.

Same here. While the programs aren't perfect (I hate how Word loses my margins after lists), calling them "crap" is ic
