No JohnT, this is about the cafe owner's right to set rules for his establishment. What's wrong with that?

Well then why have men vote on abortion law at all? When abortion cases come up to the Supreme Court, lets just tell the men to keep out because they don't understand it. Let's let Ginsberg vote on all the abortion cases, since she'll be the only other woman left!

no ones disputing that right. just as there is a right of consumers to boycott. Some people are using this story to launch a rant.

Well, the argument seems to be boiling down to "Right on, man!" vs. "He's a goddamn hippy!" Once again, my finger is firmly placed on the pulse of Apolyton...

John - IS has repeatedly told me that I cant comment on the social implications of GTA untill ive played it. It seems some people get very defensive about their little darlings

She didnt ask anyone to bow down to her - just to understand the difficulty of parenting.

No, she asked people to bow down to her.

How the f**k do you know that - are you in Chicago? I can guarantee you there wouldnt be boycott talk going around if he was only tossing kids who bang into display cases.

Yeah right! The entitlement class (ie, the spoiled parents of snotty kids... which doesn't cover all parents or all kids) probably saw the sign and immediately thought of boycott. Anything that prevents their moment in the sun is going to lead to them hrumphing and walking away.

The fact that other establishments have told him good job and they admire what he's done indicates to me that he isn't throwing out kids for one or two yelps in the 2 hours of silence (or whatever).

Mr. Hippy says their all "ex- cheerleaders and beauty queens" how likely do you think that really is? How closely do you think Mr Hippy is connected to reality?

Very much so. I think his point is right on that these parents are spoiled rotten by the society. He doesn't LITERALLY mean they are ex cheerleaders and beauty queens, but that they act as those groups did in high school.

Um... actually I told you that you can't comment on what the game PROMOTES unless you play it. Thanks for twisting my argument, but that bird won't fly.

                      Childless people ranting about children
Sure, if it's just plain ignorant, intolerant ranting. On the other side of the coin...

Parents who feel that by breeding, they and their kids are entitled to ____ without limitation, and screw the rest of us

It's about tolerance and moderation - from both the childless and parents. Common sense would be nice sometimes, too.

"Part of parenting skills is teaching kids they behave differently in a restaurant than they do on the playground," Mr. McCauley said in an interview. "If you send out positive energy, positive energy returns to you. If you send out energy that says I'm the only one that matters, it's going to be a pretty chaotic world."

                          You have no kids.

                          Your opinion is useless. Period.
Sorry, John, I know you're a proud papa, but that's just bull****. If that were so, then those who chose to have children would be able to run roughshod all over those who do not, because the childless would not be entitled to an opinion. Or rather a "useful" opinion.

i note that Andersonville is not far from West Rogers Park.

I suggest these parents leave the obnoxious Neg Pop Growth hippies behind, and head for a neighborhood where the restaurants will accept children, in all their boisterous wonderfulness, and wont expect them to sit straight and quiet and eat their meat loaf.

The world is big enough both for people who want a little peace and quiet as well as parents with small children. In general I don't think people have much of a problem with screaming kids since they all know it's a part of development and that's just the way it goes. For example two infants crying their lungs out on a bus, it happens all the time but people don't get angry. Use common sense, a few years ago it was you screaming.

It's more a case of people getting pissed off at parents taking for granted that their child must scream, therefore it's ok for me to just let her sit and scream in a public place for thirty minutes straight without making any effort to calm her down or take it outside. And walking with two baby carriages side by side blocking the entire pavement.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars
