    There is a team of Jesuit astronomers who work for the Pope. They recently said they don't believe in intelligent design either and told JPII so. They said he took great interest in their work and accepted their view.

    Their idea, which is consistent with the Genesis story, is that God's role was to set the wheels in motion and then God just stepped back let it all unfold. To say otherwise is to say life is a kind of puppet show.

          A Vatican cardinal said Thursday the faithful should listen to what secular modern science has to offer, warning that religion risks turning into "fundamentalism" if it ignores scientific reason.
          Nothing new here:

                With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
