I should also point out that specialists are also on HMO's most times.
Still an approved list, but specialists all the same.

My dad has coverage with an HMO and when I grew up we had an HMO so I'm used to HMOs. I must say it was nice to only have to pay $10 for any visit or perscription. I'd heard of PPOs but I had no experience with them and didn't even know what made them different. This has helped me a lot. Thanks.
Just know that PPOs have preferred and non-preferred providers. After the deductable is exhausted, the PPO pays a higher percentage of the preferred provider's service than the non-preferred provider, but you can some coverage for non-preferred (for example, they'd pay 60% instead of 90% if non-preferred).

Keep in mind that the drilling business is highly cyclical. It's not for everyone.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Yeah, the drilling business is notoriously cyclical, however, due to high oil prices they're drilling like mad right now. I'm thinking about signing on with the drilling company and working the job for a few years to get petroleum experience then seeing if I want to switch to an enviromental. The thing is 2-4 year experence in the geology field can make a 20k to 25k difference in salary. I only have a year of hands on experience since the military kept pulling me away from my job. If I could put up with it for a few years then I'd be in great shape.
As you are young and have no family, I would say the field job sounds like a better option. Then in a few years, you can settle down with an office job working 8-5 and having BBQ on fridays.

I'm worried about Oerdin taking the drilling job. I mean, what if a giant asteroid is headed towards earth and the president calls on him to save all of humanity!?
Once you get an idea which offer you'd probably accept, call the loser and tell them you're going with the other company and why. I'll bet they sweeten their offer.

Yeah, but just think of all the cool jumps he can do in the space dune buggy on the asteroid, and all the great perks he gets when he inevitably succeeds.

Congratulations. The benefits and pay are better at the drilling company. But, those are not the only considerations in deciding which job is right for you. I have confidence that you will make the best decision for you.
