~15 minutes by bicycle, and since I am always short on time it makes for some furious pedaling

It would take ~30 minutes by public transportation.

        Zkrib,

Have you seen the movie Crash?

I think you would really appreciate it, it has alot of the social dynamics of where we live. (It's based in LA).

I love Crash, an amazing film

~1 mile to the economics department, a mile the other way to the business school. I have the longest commute in Oxford Silly university putting them on the opposite sides of town.

Even though I'd Hit It with Sandra Bullock, this is the best scene in the movie Crash.

Oops sorry I put in a spoiler.

unfortunatley we'll have to go with Sandra.

Looks good. This from IMDB.com [International Movie Date Base]:

Graham: It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

You can download it on Movielink.com, that's where I watched it. It's $5 I think for the download/rental.

You'd also be supporting the local economy, as Movie Link is based out of Santa Monica.

My place of employment is approximately 1.5 miles away. If the traffic lights go my way, it takes six minutes or so to get there. If they don't go my way, it's more like eight minutes.

                            Terrible, isn't it?

When I moved to where I am now I was just wanting to get out of where I was. I hated the city and I took whatever I could find. A part of that decision was moving closer to my girlfriend. She lives 54 miles north of me. My new job is 25 miles south of me. In the next year or two we will probably be getting married. She wants to keep her kids in the small school district they are in now so that would mean me moving. Hopefully by then I will have found a place closer to transfer to. I work for the state so there are positions that I could fill and if i go back to school for a little more there would be even more. I'm not complaining about it because I chose to live here. I was just curious about everyone's commute times. Seems like nearly everyone I know and talk to does not live in the town they work in. And this state has very limited public transportation.

when I went to college, it was the same way. Over half the students lived about an hour away from campus. The only ones that lived in dorms were out of state students.
