    In answer to my question...

    In March perhaps?

Not sure if you can connect Iran's nuclear ambitions to Ahma-dude's statements just like that. Does the president control the nuclear project or do the clerics? Apparently, even the clerics are annoyed by Ahma-geezer's provocative talk.

              Exactly, I'm agreeing with you.

They probably wanted to keep things quietly - and then stealth-nuked you...

Khamenei controls the military, so any military applications and the use of nukes would be under his direct control as he is head of state.

Iran's top nuclear negotiator actually is on bad terms with Ahmadinejad, and he has had a tought time gettng a government working- the establishment in Iran is not enthused by him. Hell, he still hasn't been able to get a whole cabinet approved by the Legislature.

Bit more subtle, but also bit more realistic: they know bloody well you can't talk or act irresponsibly like that without repercussions. Let's not forget Ahma-guy is an anti-establishment figure. Which brings us to the question who controls the nuclear project. If it's the clerics, I don't think all that much changed since before Ahma-fellow became prez. (which is not necessarily a good thing of course, but not as bad as Ahma-rhetorics would make it seem)

                      Thanks.

Aside of rhetorics, Ahma-hombre hasn't actually been doing a lot in real actions it seems so I wouldn't get all panicky for now.

What would happen if nuclear weapons exploded in the airspace above Iran and Isreal?

An Irani nuke is no direct threat to Israel. Has everybody forgot about MAD?

If Saddam was afraid to launch chemical weapons on Israel, while he was under attack by the coalition in 1990, why would Iran strike out of the blue?

Iran's president's rethoric is for internal use. There is no better way to silence internal opposition (to the mullah's) then to point at an external enemy. Striking at Iran will strengthen the grip of the mullah's and fanatical nutjobs.

why do you want to go back to MAD?

we were lucky that MAD worked for so long.. but it was really close to failling many many times.. and the results would have been catostrophic if it had

right now the only MAD relationship is India/Pakistan.. and we should be doing all we can to end that

MAD isn't a stable equilibrium, it is unstable, and can end at anytime

I don't want to move back towards a MAD world.. I want nukes to be shelved, I want protection against nukes (if possible), I want countries that call for others to cease to exist not to have nukes

Shelfing nukes is a nice dream, but it's not going to happen. the #1 Mr. Nuke wants more of them, so there is no way the rest of the world is going to sit idle.

India, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran... They are only the tip of the iceberg. Many more will follow.
