  • So, when will Israel be attacking Iran's Nuclear Plants then?

    Iran leader's words 'sicken' UK

The UK Foreign Office is to summon a senior Iranian diplomat to protest against his president's comments about destroying Israel.

Hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for the Jewish state to be "wiped off the map".

The Foreign Office will call in Iran's London chargé d'affaires on Thursday. It said the comments were "deeply disturbing and sickening".

The remarks have heightened concerns over Iran's nuclear intentions.

    'Horrible reality'

At least five people were killed in what police say was a suicide bomb attack in northern Israel on Wednesday.

An FO spokesman said this showed "the horrible reality of the violence he [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] is praising".

Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has said Iran is regarded as "a clear and present danger".

He said it was clear that Iran was trying to develop a programme to make nuclear weapons.

Iran denies this, but insists it has the right to pursue a civilian nuclear programme for peaceful purposes.

At least five people died and up to were 30 wounded in the bomb attack near a market place in Hadera, northern Israel.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group said it carried out the attack in revenge for Israel's killing of its senior leader, Luay Saadi, on Monday.

I don't think they have the capability yet--not enough fuel. Unless another Middle Eastern country allows them to land and refuel. Which seems unlikely. And apparently Iran has spread out its nuclear sites and placed some underground so as to avoid the danger of such attacks.

Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Hmpfh. Iran sure as hell didn't help its cause, that's for sure.

"Our nuclear program is strictly for generating electricity — oh, by the way, we think Israel should be wiped off the map — not for any sort of clandestine nuclear weapons program."

Yeah, right. Good grief. Whaddya take us for? A bunch of baahing sheep?

I can only hope they do so very soon as the US is obviously hangstrung and cannot.

Israeli plans can easily reach most parts of Iran. The same US built planes can fly from the UK to Libya and back while flying around Franch airspace so the Israelis can reach Iran. Jordan has repeatedly ignored Israeli planes flying over its territory out of fear of sparking a war while the US won't attack Israeli planes.

Apparently Iran has defended its statement that Israel should be "wiped off the map" by saying it's its foreign policy...

The statement made by the Iranian President was probably just a case of acting tough... (At least I would hope so.) I do agree that it was somewhat of a silly comment in regards to the current tug-of-war over their desire to develop nuclear power purportedly for energy needs. However, as far as developing nukes for military purposes, strategically it wouldn't even be worth dropping nukes on Israel considering the fallout would affect all its Arab neighbors.

I'm sure that the US will love to use this gaffe to back its stance on Iran though... (ie: See! See! I told you soooo!)

What a stupid thing for him to say.

I dont think it will ever happen. AFAIK the various sites are spread all across the country, so an Iraq style attack with 24(IIRC) planes on a single target will not work.

Well, I for one think it'd not only not work but even be impossible.
Nuclear sites of Iran is it's currently most valuable asset (practically ensures that noone can just walk in and take over.. ), so they're guarding them as nothing else.
Even the whole Israeli airforce won't do a sh^t to them..

I dissagree with the "won't do a sh^t", but it will most likely not accomplish the objectives.

So it's up to the US.

Is our airforce tied down in Iraq? Cause I wouldn't have thought so and that's (presumably) the part of the military that would do such an operation.

After all the stuff Iran is doing in Iraq and this latest outburst, I really don't see any other outcome than the Israelis striking the Iranian nuclear assets at a critical moment with the US' tacit approval...

The Israelis have a history of aggressive international pre-emptive strikes across the entire region - including the USS Liberty of their own allies! So they won't even bat an eyelid striking at Iran when the time comes.
