I couldn't stand the wussy ending of Old Boy. He claims he's a monster bent on revenge and then breaks down because of *spoiler*. Bruce Willis would have stopped the bad guy's plan without the crying and self-mutilation. "Yippy kai yay mother****er."

Bah, was a great ending. The movie is about ****ing with people's heads not "yippy kai yay mother****er." And his final solution is very very fitting...

I had a thread like this about a year ago.

There were some kick azz recommendations, if you can find it.

Netflix has a good selection of foreign films, highly recommended.

Would you even consider French freedom films?
I mean, if you're going to get one in CA, then they'll all have subtitles, so it's not as if you need to understand French freedom to enjoy them.

He was all badass until he started crying and cut off his *spoiler*.

                Ted Striker Recommends:

                Run Lola Run (1998)
                Shaun of the Dead (2004)
                Cronos (1993)
                Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
                Osama (2003)
                Hidden Fortress (1958)
                Monsieur Ibrahim (2003)
                Amores Perros (2000)
                The Devil's Backbone (2001)
                Nine Queens (2000)

                  My two cents:

                  Svadba/La Noce
Hilarious Russian comedy about a wedding in some godforsaken Siberian mineworkers town.
                  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246119/

                  Lilya 4-ever
Heartbreaking story about a Russian girl that is abandoned by her parents and, after falling prey to a charming loverboy, ends up being forced into protitution in Sweden. Be prepared for a movie that gives you the feeling of being beaten with a big hammer uninterruptedly for the whole duration of the movie.

But the whole point of the film wasn't to create the most bad-ass action hero possible. Its not an action movie!!

The Vanishing. The original Dutch version, not the shitty American remake.

Cidade de Deus (City of god; great brazilian movie)
Crna macka, beli macor (Black cat white cat; a crazy and excellent serbian/croatian movie)
Das Boot (The Boat; a must see)
Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amelie; a great great french movie)
C'est arrivé près de chez vous (Man bites dog; a socially shocking belgian movie.. this one is not to be taken easy!!)
La Mala educación (Bad Education; a spanish movie about gays and the church, very good)
La Vita è bella (Life is beautiful; great movie with Roberto Benigni, settled around a nazi death camp)

Ahh... Man Bites Dog is awesome. Get the unrated version if you can, which includes the evisceration and the child.

Audition, by Takishi Miike is also terrific, but not for the delicate. One of my top 10 horror films.
