Yes, but they can be socialized if you get them young enough. I have seen a dog get royally ****ed up by a momma raccon before. To be fair the dog could have easily killed the raccoon but being a house dog which had probably never gotten into a fight before it didn't try to bite back.

When I was living in Isla Vista near Santa Barbara we had crap loads of raccoons around. The students were messy bastards and the raccoons loved eatting old pieces of pizza and what ever else the students threw out. When I was in the dorms the students would feed the baby raccoons so that they'd wait outside the dining commons for people to feed them. They were very tame and would let people pet them or tickle their tummies. In a wild place that wouldn't be good but in I.V. the raccoons survive and multiply by getting college kids to feed them or by dumpster diving.

I've always thought that raccoons are some kind of bears because they're called "wash bears" in many languages. Don't know whgy. But they look like a cross between a fox and a badfger or soemthing.

I didn't know they even exitsed in Europe until know. But clearly they don't belong and should be exterminated? Especially considereing their Nazi roots.

They belong to the same family as coatis, kinkajous, and ringtails and are native to North & South America.

They are thier own family (Procyonidae) within Carnivora, traditionaly placed as close to bears (Ursidae) and dogs(Canidae), but recent data shows them as grouping with ferrets (Mustelidae) and skunks (Mephitidae). Strangely, there is an herbivorous raccon species in China called the lesser panda, which is completely unrealated to the giant panda, which is a bear. The Fargo Zoo has a lesser panda and it is absolutely adorable.
