What if they brought back gladiator style games back to the modern world?

Who here would pay money to go see Gladiator type games?

Today's society seems to be addicted to violence in entertainment. Our movies and video games have violence in them. Reality tv is a big fad in North America. Would this type of reality entertainment be over the top?

I don't think gladiator games would be a huge hit. IT would be seen as too brutal if people die. Some freaks would watch it, and the occasional pervert.

So nah, I don't think that's something that would be a good idea, it would draw audience, but not THAT much.

Ah yes I did ignore who would do the fighting.

How about offering criminals their freedom if they can win 50 fights. The fights wouldn't all be just against humans though.....

not necessarily. countries that allow **** fights aren't generally regarded as 'rogue nations'

I thought I heard somewhere that some Asian nation staged a battle between like 30 midgets with sticks against a lion and the lion killed them all.

I think people are twisted enough to watch modern gladiator games.

There was a thread about it on 'Poly, it was just a rumor. It never happened for real.

Modern Gladiator games would be all the rage if they become mainstream. However, I think that they're more likely to fit a small niche, and be distributed by underground canals a bit like early porn.

You're no doubt right, but as we all know, porn didn't stay a small, underground niche and is now a huge industry. After several years (and many attempts to stamp it out) I think gladiator combat would start to get a toe hold in the mainstream. Its sad, but I won't be surprized if it some day happens.

Today ultimate fighting and bum fights, tomorrow its gladiators.
