California real estate is insane. Though, anyone from Manhattan has little ground to speak on high real etstae values-after all, it is the most expensive place to rent.

I mean, the median for s tudio rental in Manhattan is $1,700 a month. For a studio!


The thing about NYC is that it will never come up in one of those "home price lists", not only because there aren't that many "homes" in Manhattan (with a density of 40,000 per square mile, no kidding), but that those survesy are done by zip code ususally, and zip codes in New York County at least will include luxury condos with places that go for 7 Million and public housing units.

In the paper just the other day, the avg. home price for all of Ca., was 475.000

That's scary given that the northeast is virtually uninhabited, the east and southeast are very undesirable places to live while the farm belt in the center still has very moderate prices. That means the coastal areas have to be very, very, very expensive to bring the average up.

The House across the street from me is a 3 bedroom 2 bath at 1075 sq ft, sold in May of this year at 535.000.

My House is 1286 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, so I could now go for 600.000.
