      I research digital music players from time to time, and the Ipod never comes out on top (though it does tend to be one of the better products). I typically refuse to buy products that lock you in, which is why I have never bought a product by Apple and have passed over Sony products many times. Amusingly I see less and less reason to buy a digital music player, as they are pretty pricey for what you get. I'm usually in a position to forego the whole headphones thing and can simply play music over speakers at home, work or in the car. For file transfers I have a one Gig flash memory stick, which was quite cheap in comparison.
