            Just watch Grave of the Fireflies by Isao Takahata. Takes a bit longer, but emotional reaches (OK - tears out your heart and caresses it) a good 95% fo the adults if IMDB reviews are any indicator.

                  My Smurf lore may be rusty, but I don't think there were ever any 'babies', as Papa smurf had to make new smurfs in the lab. The only kid Smurfs were the ones that had magically been made young in a Saturday morning episode.
                  Must be very rusty, there was ONe baby and he was in almost every single episode (album)...
