Considering we have disease the cause people to go crazy like that already (Rabies, Mad Cow). A bit of human tampering by a top secret lab and boom, bites spread an aggressive disease which renders its victims delusional and hungry to spread the virus, to others, by biting them.

Possible? Or did we smoke too much weed?
Anyhow to the original question - it's not remotely possible under current scientific understanding. Simply put, we don't know what goes on inside the brain, even a little bit. You'd have to tailor a virus VERY carefully (more likely not a true virus anyway, but something more complex) to hit specific neurons in the brain - which is so far beyond current science that we'll probably be settled into other planets before something like that is remotely possible.

Unless of course brain cells for consciousness had different receptors than other brain cells, which could be quite likely. It really depends on how the brain is organized and how the cells function.

I'd bust a cap in all those zombies

Then I'd get my axe and start swinging.

Word up it would be fun slicing those zombies apart

I see a distinct anti-zombie attitude in this thread. Equal rights for zombies now!

Yeah! If it is just an incurable brain disease then these people (so called ~zombies~) just need medical care. Fascists!

Given that you're the expert at returning from the dead, you should be telling us.

So brain cells are not differentiated and are no different at all from sensory or motor nerves?

Why do I even have to argue this?

Thanx for protecting my view on how to make zombies

Unless I'm wrong, then there are different chemical and electrical conditions in different parts of the brain - maybe even different percentages of dendrites and neurons, so if the virus has very limited specifications for doing it's work, I think it could be done. It would that way be selfregulating so it only degrades the brain to a certain point, and when repairattempts are made, it kicks in again.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

If the question is, could there be a virus out there that would propegate itself by taking over the human mid and making it attack other humans, by say, biting, then possibly. BY eating others, no, since that does not actually spread the virus, would it?

As for the dead, they are dead. NO virus could possibly end the necrosis of the cells after they had been starved of nutrients and oxygen.

Now, why on earth did I give a half serious answer to this question?
