Is it so unbelievable for some of you to see two masculine men romantically love one another that you burst into uncontrollable laughter?
maybe it has more to do with Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger's acting...

part of it has to do with the redneck reaction to their gayness... their respective denials, and then their wives getting mad at them... sorry but I find it hilarious when rednecks get all pissed off when someone finds out they are gay... like being gay is something to get mad about

sorry but here are a few lines I found hilarious:

in the begining of the preview:

"we're gonna be working together, I reckon we better start drinking together" thats how it always starts

then across the screen it says THERE ARE LIES WE HAVE TO TELL, and Heath Ledger says, "We was just fishin' buddies!"

and then this other redneck guy says, "you boys sure found a way to pass the time up there!"

MrFun, I don't expect you to understand what is funny about this, you don't have a good sense of humor. And being gay yourself, it's probably extra difficult to find the humor in this (because it is an issue you are sensitive about).

I'm sure some people will find this story to be moving and powerful and all that jazz. That's fine.

But IMO, the general story could have been keep intact and a few changes could have been made and I would not have found the movie to be so ridiculous.

To be quite frank, the movie cannot be taken seriously because it is so ridiculous.

I'm not sure what specific changes I would have made. For starters, I think I would have casted unknown actors into the leading roles. Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are not believable as redneck homosexuals. They are both good actors in their own rights, but these roles are not for them.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Whether it is wrong or not, I have to give Sava a for being forthright about this and tries to discuss it calmly.

Eh... some of it was kind of funny (the hokey lines like the fishing buddies line), but not uncontrollable laughter funny.

Actually, homosexuality among cowboys was fairly common.

I think I've done a good job in expressing my thoughts calmly -- you don't see me becoming unreasonable, and screaming that Sava is a bigot, for instance.

I may disagree with Sava's opinion that the trailer is funny, and that it might be easier for straight people to laugh at this, but I also know that Sava is not a homophobe.

Imran: well uncontrollable laughter is probably an exagerration...

what makes it funnier is my dad and his speech aphasia... he keeps calling the movie "Bareback Mountain"... and that doesn't help the situation at all!

I think it's good that we can all discuss this.

It's not my intention to offend anyone. I literally cannot help what I find humorous.

I just wanted to express my POV and find out what everyone else thought.

I know these types of issues are sensitive for you and I don't mean to offend you or anything.

The initial imigary - since I had looked at the Sava's post first - brought a smile to my face. I sincerely hope that the trains and sheep were accidental imagery, because if not...

I saw the trailer somewhere else with my wife and I have to admit we started laughing too.

And anyone that has read my posts here should realize that I'm not a homophobe. My wife isn't either.

I think it was just the portrayal and the surprise.
I guess we had never really thought about gay cowboys before and it caught us off guard. Once you think about it, I realize it's not a laughing matter, but for some reason we just looked at each other and started laughing.

Why not wait until you actually see the movie to make this kind of judgment? Since it's been garnering rave critical reviews, I think basing such an assessment on a trailer is pretty unfair. I've seen lots of trailers for movies that weren't great, but the film itself was. Directors don't make the trailers for their own films, alas.

I certainly don't get why the film is supposedly "ridiculous."

                          Boris: valid point...

I should have been more specific. I haven't seen the movie. I'm mostly just talking about the trailer.
