  • Yes, I disagree. The competition is extremely fierce in the AFC with the usual suspects (Patriots, Steelers, and Colts) and a strong AFC West. The Bengals and the Jaguars also look like strong wild-card contenders.

The NFC is with the exception of the NFC East still totally pathetic.

    • The NFC South may make some noise. You have Atlanta, Carolina, and Tampa. New Orleans/San Antonio is useless however.

And yes, I disagree Kid. The NFC is vastly inferior to the AFC.

      • Well, yes, the NFC South has three teams that will fight for playoff spots, but they'd be the underdogs against the AFC playoff teams.

The Bucs lost their starting QB and have a Cadillac in the garage, the Falcons have the scintillating Michael Vick Experience, and the Panthers look vulnerable, especially on the road.

        • I think the AFC will still win the Super Bowl, but taking all of the teams together in each conference I think the NFC might be a little bit stronger this year. The NFC has won more games and a lot of NFC teams have improved while a lot of AFC teams have gotten worse, especially the Patriots.

Just on another note. I was looking at stats and figured that Carr is sacked every forth time Houstan passes. Damn, that's pathetic.

          • Well, the NFC has about 7-8 legitimately good teams- three or four in the East, three in the South, one in the West. I think it's pretty clear which ones I'm talking about.

The AFC has fewer than that, I think. The East is getting quite weak, because injuries are killing the Patriots and Jets, and the QB transition has killed Buffalo. The North has Pittsburgh and Cincinatti. The South has Indianapolis and Jacksonville. The West has Denver and San Diego.

I'd say that the NFC has bounced back to near-parity after last year, when it wasn't even close. The North is just as bad as it always was, but the East, especially, has improved a whole lot. The Redskins and Giants had absolutely atrocious pass offenses, but they each acquired a new WR, and now both are genuinely intimidating. The Buccaneers have emerged as a contender, and the Panthers have made a comeback.

The AFC should still win the Superbowl pretty handily, though, because it has at least a few top-tier teams which remain healthy. The Eagles, Bucs, and Seahawks especially are getting beaten up.

Injuries are a bigger factor this year than they have been for quite a few.

            • The QB transition has killed Buffalo?! Are you kidding me? It's made them far more likely to make the playoffs.

Furthermore, of the Top 5 teams in the league, it really is an AFC dominated list. Indy, Pittsburgh, Cincy, Denver... all better the NFC's best (yes, even taking into consideration that Denver lost at the Giants last weekend in the last second).

              • I meant the transition from Bledsoe last year to Losman and Holcomb this year.

                • I also disagree. The NFC contains the NFC North; therefore, it cannot be stronger than the AFC.

Last year I described the NFC as a "cesspool of mediocrity." The NFC is better overall (lots of good teams over there), but still the AFC has a slight edge over the NFC, and an AFC team will win the Super Bowl again.

I think I'll take Holcomb in Buffalo at this point. Bledsoe is crap if he's not the QB under Parcells.

                    • We'll see. The Bills were pretty damn good in the last half of 2004, and I haven't yet seen them play at that level this year.
