  • good QB's don't need good receivers... look at Brett Favre (throughout his career)

    and who does Tom Brady have to throw to? how about Drew Brees? (he has Gates, okay, but at WR, San Diego is weak)

    and Jerry Rice seemed to do all right without another superstar on the other side of the field... John Taylor was a good WR, but nowhere near as good as Rice
    To us, it is the BEAST.

    • You're kidding right?

      Farve had Sterling Sharpe, Antonio Freeman, Javon Walker throughout his career. Brady has Troy Brown (a GREAT reciever, look at his stats) and Deion Branch. Brees had LT coming out of the backfield and Gates, as you said, was more of a WR than a TE.

      It may not be the WRs. Vick may just be that raw of a passer, but to say that star QBs have had the quality of WRs that Vick has with the Falcons is ridiculous. Peerless Price, their #1 for years, is a #4 with DALLAS. He's caught all of 1 pass for -1 yards on a team not well known for its recievers.

      Jerry Rice seemed to do all right without another superstar on the other side of the field... John Taylor was a good WR, but nowhere near as good as Rice

      But he was a superstar WR himself. You only need one to really change things. Look at T.O. in Philly.

      • Sterling Sharpe had a career ending injury in what, 1993?

        Antonio Freeman? that guy is bum... anyone else throwing to him but Favre, and his career goes nowhere... Javon Walker has had one good year with Favre. Maybe if Walker came into the league in the mid 90's you would have a case.

        Troy Brown?

        meh

        Brown is an above average possession receiver... in 13 NFL seasons he has 490 receptions, but only 25 TD's... Moss or Owens gets that many TD's in a couple of seasons.

        Branch? he's young... hasn't done much so far...

        Point being... Brady has not had a Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, or Terrell Owens.

        but then again, you have proven you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to judging NFL talent... is Troy Brown going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer as well?

        • So Antonio Freeman is a bum because he had Farve throwing to him and that made him look good? What exactly do you base that on? I think Freeman's stats speak for itself. Farve was a great QB, but Freeman was the #1 WR.

          It's like saying Michael Irvin was a bum and if anyone other than Aikman was throwing to him his career would go no where.

          Brown is an above average possession receiver

          And what exactly is wrong with possession recievers? Keyshawn Johnson was/is a possession reciever and with both the Jets and the Bucs he was a highly valued reciever.

          Vick doesn't even have that. His 'possession reciever' is Brian Finneran. A far cry from a reciever that has had a season of over 100 catches. I guess Finneran had 56 catches on year.

          Who says you need a Moss, Harrison, or Owens? You can have good recievers without having gamebreaking ones. And Speer was right, Vick hasn't even had a good one.

          And I've shown far more aptitute in judging NFL talent than you have, boy. I didn't believe the Bears will have a winning record this season after all.

            Yes... his best years were when Brett Favre was winning MVP's

            Then Freeman goes to Philly and when McNabb is throwing to him (a QB with not as good accuracy) Freeman cannot do good. McNabb is a good QB, but does not make receivers look better than they are like Favre does.

            I predicted they would be between 7-9 and 9-7...

            so far they are 1-2... and they play the Browns on Sunday...

            remaining Bears opponents:

            @Cleveland
            Minnesota

            Baltimore
            @Detroit
            @New Orleans
            San Francisco

            Carolina
            @Tampa Bay
            Green Bay
            @Pittsburgh
            Atlanta
            @Green Bay
            @Minnesota

            I bolded the games they have a good chance of winning... also... Baltimore is also a team they could have a chance against...

            7 wins is not an unreasonable prediction for the Bears... 9-7 is just the extent of what I deem the Bears can potentially can do this season.

            But according to you, I have the Bears winning the Super Bowl.

                  Freeman was already in decline when he went to Philly. The year before he only caught 52 balls with the amazing Bret Favre throwing to him (in a year the Pack went 12-4).

                  Yeah, if you think they can sweep the NFC Central . I'm sorry, the Bears are just as sorry as the Lions, Vikings, and Packers. To think they'll sweep the division is foolishness. You've stated six of your potential wins will be against divisional foes. It'll probably be more like 3. If you think you'll beat New Orleans, you're nuts and I think Cleveland will beat the Bears.

                  It's a pipe dream.

                      Maybe you weren't watching football on week 2.

                      Maybe you didn't watch the Bears in week 1... become what, I think the 5th team in NFL history to lose a regular season game by allowing only 9 points.

                      Maybe you haven't been watching the Vikings and Packers this season.

                      Maybe you didn't see the Bears offense outgain the Bengals offense. And it's unlikely Kyle Orton is going to throw 5 INT's again (he is not going to face the Bengals secondary again).

                      Chicago has the 6th best defense (points allowed) in the NFL. And 4th best yardage allowed defense.

                      Cleveland is 29th in yardage allowed defense so far this season.

                      Pipe dream my ass.

                      • It will be nteresting to see what the league says about the overturned Detroit TD vs. Tampa. (Probably nothing.)

                        I saw a slo-mo stop-motion sequence last night (ESPN I think) and there's no doubt in my mind that Detroit got SCREWED BLUE.

                        Incontrovertible my ass! The ref made the right call, and the replay guy overturned on THAT evidence?

                        Weak. Very weak.

                        This is why replay will always be controversial. At the end of the day, you are still dealing with the human error factor.

                        • but Imran, Vick finally has some solid receivers in Jenkins and Dez White... and there's always Crumpler... this season, it's up to Vick.

                          and Peerless' fall is proff enough that Vick hasn't had good receivers. If your #1 receiver ends up buried in the depth chart on another team... he was mediocre at best (and his early career success was due to Eric Mould's prescence, as I said). granted, Dallas does have Glenn (a real good receiver despite his height) and Keyshawn... but Peerless, if he was actually good, should be competing with them for the starting position, not just buried behind them.

                            The Lions aren't too bad except for bum Harrington. They got three big receivers in Roy Williams, Rogers, and the rookie Mike Williams... have you seen them? they're all over 6'3" and built like Terrel Owens! If Garcia was still starter material, the Lions would be a real threat.

                            but at least the NFC North aint as bad as the NFC West

                            EDIT: looking at the standings, i realized I was terribly wrong. Even with the Cards, the niners, and the what-the-hell-happened-to-them? Rams, the NFC West at least has two teams that are 2-2.

                              • I was watching football every week so far. The Bears were one of the few that lost while allowing 9 points, but that necessarily means they SCORED LESS! And yes, they rolled over the Lions in Week 2. Doesn't mean they're going to do it again at Detroit in 4 weeks. Kevin Jones may have started running by then. A chance, but don't count on another blowout. As for the Bengals, I don't care how good a secondary is... 5 picks is 5 picks. It showed a blueprint. Focus on the run, force Orton to beat you and he'll make rookie mistakes.

                                They've played Washington, Detroit, and Cinncinatti (not exactly the championship contenders last year) and are 1-2.

                                Yeah, Sava... pipe dream.
