The White Sox won the American League Central Division for the first time since 2000, as Freddy Garcia pitched seven strong innings in a 4-2 victory over the Tigers Thursday afternoon.
Garcia allowed two earned runs while striking out five, walking none and giving up eight hits.
The Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on the second triple in as many days by Carl Everett and never looked back. Paul Konerko also chipped in with his 40th homer, a sixth-inning solo shot.
The Tigers cut the lead to 4-2 on a one-run double by Magglio Ordonez with one out in the eighth inning. But the Sox avoided further damage as relievers Neal Cotts and Bobby Jenks retired the next two batters.
Jenks closed out the game for the Sox in the ninth.

congrats White Sox
although I'm a Cubs fan, I still want the Sox to win the World Series...
I'm a Chicago fan
this city deserves a baseball championship, North or South side...
it's quite a soap opera on the South Side... Ozzie Guillen has been losing it. He reportedly throws up everytime the Sox lose. He gets angry when the fans boo saying he hates the "30,000 managers in the stands!"
and he's been reported as saying he will retire if they win the World Series.
I hope not, he's a very entertaining manager
as for the Playoffs... I hope the White Sox manage to face the Yankees in the Playoffs... I think the Angels are the best overall team in the American league. I think Boston is a better team than the Yankees, and I would rather the Sox face NY. The White Sox can't face the Indians in the first round because they are in the same division.
So it's either the Angels or the Yankees/Red Sox.
