  • Oh Mac users, lend me your knowledge

I finally decided to get a laptop, mainly because I really don´t want to take a monitor up 5 floors of stairs again (my city has lots of old, rotten buildings with no lift) and also because a lot of students have it, and I don´t want to look like a poor students just for not having one too.

Does it make sense? I am sure it does, after all this is a very superficial country and I am sure I know my chickens (it doesn´t sound very well in english but literally it means "I know who I am dealing with")

After some Apple-bashing I tried by myself the iPod and I remembered the old times when I used to have an old, fashioned Macintosh, back in the middle ages. I realized that I use Windows mainly for computer games, which doesn´t make sense anymore as I am going to use my laptop for studying and listening to music in the spare time.

There it comes the useful side of Apolyton! (er, using the picture-upload space as a form of pr0n backup)
The other one- asking people stuff and getting 5 replies and 150 views. But I am still confident that posting here makes you maybe not a better person (there´s people from Greece after all) but a more informed and well-educated one.

Mac users! I need a Mac-laptop. Suggest me a model, and try to explain the world why it may be a good choice after all.

Yes, I am going to become a Mac user soon. And I also use Opera.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

for what you want a computer for a mac should be fine

      I have considered one myself

the ibooks are apparently better made, and cheaper

so I would go with one of those (Aren't as powerful, but you dont' care about that, and an apple isn't going to be a beastly computer anyway)

It's probably a better idea to get an iBook, since they're cheaper and more sturdy. They're not as fast as Powerbooks, but they still have pretty much the same features, like wifi and bluetooth built-in. I'd recommend getting a 12" iBook - the screen resolution is the same as the 14", and the smaller size means it's far, far more convenient to carry around, and so you'd be able to get more use out of it.

The iBook is an excellent choice for a college student, when it comes to laptops. I've heard nothing but good about them. Don't bother with the PowerBook, as they are in dire need of a huge spec improvement, or price drop.

I myself would go for the 12'' model, simply for mobility, with an external monitor for when I'm at home. At 999$, it is a great laptop. Great durability, great looks.

Yes, the iBook is a phenomenal deal for people who enjoy driving Pintos and Ladas or otherwise obsolete vehicles.

You're paying for 2001-era technology in an iBook at 2005 prices -- why oh why people still buy those things is beyond me.

If you have to buy a Mac laptop, at least get a PowerBook...then at least it's 2003-era technology at 2005 prices.

                Great durability, great looks.
Have you ever actually used an iBook? It's cheap plastic...

My Mac-friend had an iBook back in 2002, it was broken by 2003 and he replaced it with a PowerBook that he much prefers. My laptop still runs circles around it in performance, battery life, lightness, and thinness, mind you...and it was purchased within 2 weeks of his.

Well, I forgot to say that Mac is strongly suggested by the majority of my uni professors (I´m in ancient history in case you were wondering ) I don´t need a killer computer- and the Mac OS is said to be the most used in the ancient studies´ european network

If you have to buy a Mac laptop, get a PowerBook. It will last you longer.

PowerBooks are overpriced. For what he wants a laptop for, an iBook would last him indefinitely, assuming he didn't break it somehow. Studying, listening to music, these are easily handled by the iBook without having to worry about obsolescence, or not being able to handle it in a year.
