And our future along with it, Ludd.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Yes, you did. You said jobs trump environmental concerns. If that's true, then you should have no concern about pollution, since jobs will be lost if pollution is curtailed.

We can take from the enviroment, as long as we do so at permanently sustainable rates.
You don't really know much about jungles, do you?

The soil is actually very poor under all those insanely high trees, if you cut up the wood the whole area is ****ed for a very long time since there's nothing to stop the water pouring in every midday. So it's pretty much impossible to harvest wood from jungles at "permanently sustainable rates".

You're confusing the problem. The issue is not about what these people are supposed to do if they can't rape their land anymore, but why they have to rape it, and ultimately destroy their future, in the first place.
It is easier to force a society which opresses the poor to change, or change enviromental policies?

Actually they are both looking pretty impossible when I ask that question lol.

          No, I didn't say that.

I know that. I meant taking from the earth on a whole, at permanently sustainable rates.

We need the enviroment, but we also need people to be able to support themselves.

How would you feel if you were one of those lumberjacks?

"Out here in the fields" is not about the enviroment, its about the plight of south american workers.

Yes, you said it three times so far. In all of these cases, you assert that the need for a job outweighs the need to protect the environment. You may not say so directly, but it is the implied thrust of your words.

So why are you supporting the lumberjacks who are "harvesting" (read: destroying) the jungles of Brazil?

Btw, I agree with you about the film -- judging from it's video cover, it seems to be filled with BS hippie propaganda.

It is a kids movie. I doubt complex economic and environmental arguments would go over well.

I'm not, but Fern Gully treats them as non-entities, while making them seem in fact, evil.

Do you think it's okay for Africans to kill off endagered animals for bush meat? Keep in mind that the people doing the killing are selling the meat, and that it is likely that bush meat is how SIV entered the human species and became HIV. Clear cutting the rain forest is the same stupid short-sighted thing, and a small minority are going to have to suffer by not doing something harmful to the rest of us.

I would be upset if I were one of those lumberjacks, but there is no way around this.

Once all the trees have been cut all the lumberjacks will still be out of jobs anyway. But this time we will have one less forest.

The big question is, are those 10 shields worth it?

You don't get ten shields for cutting down jungle.
