  • That wasn't even in this thread and it is a very appt discription of the people who inhabit that forum. If you look you will find threads where I condemn enviromental fantasism of the far left or where I actually say we need to pump more resources into Iraq in order to insure the Iraqization campaign. That you even defend the Free Republic people just shows how little you know about them since they really are the followers of Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter. They are fanatics and decrying them does not make me a fanatic; it makes me a reasonable person.

I went after Clinton when he di the wrong thing and I will go after the Democratic Party when their leadership shows the cowardly political nature which made them the minority party. That doesn't change the fact that the Democratic Party's principles, as I see them, are more in line for a better future for the majority of the American people. I will gladely defend that idea and all I ask is that people who disagree also justify their political positions in an intellegent way. I have and will change my positions based upon the facts, that said, I will not accept unsupported ideology or vitriol.

As I see it we have a lot of unsupported and vitriolic positions being advanced here. Look at the thread about the estate tax to see how the retoric does not conform to reality. I'm willing to discuse any topic in a orderly manner but I don't like the personal attacks and I will respond in kind to the best of my ability; if that makes me bitter in your mind then I can live with that.

Yeah -- some people get scared of others who are to the left of the pope on the political spectrum.

      • Theban - you know what's terrible. You are thinking of Oerdin as left-of-center. When I started watching politics, Oerdin would have made a nice centrist, very probably what they used to call a Spiro Agnew Republican (and I was only a teenager then, thank you very much ). Left-of-Center. WTF.

While I won't debate whether Oerdin may have a political fanaticism, I will say that you, notyoueither, do tend to have a fanatic belief in the correctness of your side. Your "concern" isn't that there's a drift in Oerdin, it's that if there is one, it's one that doesn't match up with yours.

No, I think of him as a centrist who has been sounding slightly more liberal these days. Since he's not alone in that regard (i.e. that godless traitor Imran), I'd pin it on the shift in the political climate in the US and his experiences in Iraq.

I can see that as I have a tendency not to discuss so much as brawl sometimes. Can be good fun, but can leave the wrong impression.

                          Not quite.

The concern would be that threads start off with referring to a significant portion of the population grouped as 'scum' due to their reading preferences and poltical views, and there not be much comment about it. So, I am commenting on that.

                            • Oerdin is a liberal socially, and a conservative economically, which is to say that he would pull the rug out from the things he would create.
