I use the filter.ini method. It's not as easy as Firefox's ad blocker extension but it works.

I agree with you on the flash blocker but it's not enough to make me change to Firefox. All in all IMO Opera is the best browser around.

You can thank Firefox now for not only resurrecting IE, but for scaring the **** out of Opera and forcing them to make their product free.

      If only it was comparable.

You are right. It isn't. Maybe, just maybe Firefox will someday come out with a version that is as good as Opera...

Whenever Opera has the same functionality I use regularly with extensions I'll give it another look.

Ah, browsing through hundreds of extensions... Yeah, I loved that.

Any useful functionality that extensions give me that Opera is lacking?

Maybe when FF's pagezoom is as good as Opera's I will try it

I can honestly say my eyes are good enough to never use pagezoom...

And you don't need to browse through hundreds, if you're lazy just look at the popular or highest rated ones https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...tegory=Popular

As for functionality Opera is lacking (in any reasonable way): CustomizeGoogle extension (add links to other search engines, remove ads, enable Google Suggest, etc), Forecast Fox (weather info/forecast in the toolbar), InfoRSS (scrolling RSS news feeds/"ticker" news), adblock (easily block ads), StumbleUpon (lets you "channel surf" to find cool webpages when bored), Flashblock (click-to-view Flash), Google Preview (shows "thumbnails" of websites next to google search results), Greasemonkey (very powerful extension to modify webpages before they're displayed -- CustimizeGoogle and others use this, but you can make your own scripts), etc.

Oh? Lucky you, but you're not the only one browsing the web.

Hehe, sure... Where I come from, "most popular" is almost identical with "most useless"

                    Search engines: nothing new...
                    Removing ads: http://nontroppo.org/wiki/BlockAdvertisements
Google Suggest: what's the use for that?
Weather Forecast: I have a radio for that...
Scrolling RSS: Like those distracting things on tv? No thanks.
                    Adblock: see link above...
Stumble upon: I must be getting old
Flashblock: Okay, this one is for you
Google preview: Talking about something useless...
Greasemonkey: Sure, like most people want to make their own scripts. But: http://nontroppo.org/wiki/UserJS

So besides Flashblock I don't see what FF has to offer that Opera already doesn't have...

Opera's ad blocking requires you ****ing edit files by hand. That's a joke...

And last I checked Opera's file-editing method still doesn't block Google AdWords unless they're in an iframe...

And the whole list is just an example of why Opera isn't the best, because it doesn't offer things people clearly want. The fact that extensions are out there means you can add what you want, and what you want alone...and that's why it's the superior architecture.

Individual cases of the ones that I can't live without I've illustrate that users like tailoring the web browsers to their needs.

It's something Opera may clone a few years down the line.

Firefox has some neat extensions - the web developer one is a godsend and I use it whenever I have to debug any HTML - but as far as regular browsing goes, I prefer Opera far more than Firefox. It's faster and does exactly what I want it to without having to manage a bunch of extensions.

I'll disagree with that sentiment. IMO, Firefox smokes Opera.

On the benchmarks I've seen, one wins in some cases and the other wins in others.
