  • How my neighborhood is being deconstructed.

My neighborhood named after an ottoman pasha and the name kept after the liberation was all fields centuries ago.
then it got nice houses with big gardens and it was at the time all athens was more beautiful than paris.
then it became the place where chief justices and people from the judicial profession lived.
that's when part of the destruction started taking place since the nice houses with the big gardens started getting demolished and monstrous "all modern" 6 store buildings started getting build.

    but still it held together.

then the hicks from the villages started arriving creating the confederacy of villagers that is athens today so even more building and building and building.

    more destruction.

then the final blow. immigrants started ariving. and the worse of them all: albanians. criminality went on rise in a matter of a couple of years. and that is how it is now except now pakistanis are ariving in strong numbers which i prefer them hugely to albanians/easterns.

now what can i do who wasnt born when it was a paradise of nice houses with big gardens, not born when the 6 store buildings were built and the judicials came, was not here was the hicks started arriving and more buildings got built but WAS here when the albanos started ariving.

now what is the problem? as i said criminality (not anything like american standards of course, by european standards) and lack of green.

so here i am. and i see all this and i suffer because of this (my car was broken into).

about criminality i cant do anything except inform police to do more passings by. done. and they did increase them. (not because of me apparently many had the same idea).

    what else?

now the drunkards easterns/alabanians drinking out on the streets

look you albano you cant drink on the streets there are lawsforbiding public drubnkeness and for a reason. you get aggresive. you insult, you dont have respect. right at the corner of my house!!! well that's easy. call police to have them dispersed. someone beat me to it and they did but now the damn albanos/easterners came back. start because they're too cheap to go to a bar or do it at their own godam house.

hopefully the pakistanis will outchase them. we can hope.

next up. lack of green. there are some some fields unbuilt yet. but what do theydo? they build them too! not making a park, not making a parking lot, they just keep on building. and then they say they care about us. what is it? the municipality? the ministry of public works? how can they prtend to care for us if they dont confiscate all unbuild areas and make them parks? how?
and then they ask me not to throw my cigarette out the car window. hey! do you care about this neighborhood, about this city or not?
or are you comfortable in your mansions you damn politicians and dont give a damn? so **** off. noone cares each man for himself.

I must be living in the wrong place in the US, since I've never had those things happen in my neighborhood. Or is that what you mean when you say, "not anything like american standards"
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

It isn't alcoholism. And I don't give a damn about characterizations of "racism". Oh sure the "cultural" way is to view that as a social phenomenon, new challenges blah blah.
Crap. Just telling it like it is. You can call me a martian with purple pointy ears it will still be like this.

I only have my faith in the pakistanis now. They opened their nice little mosque too. I always park my car opposite to it now. I'll have Allah watching it out for me.

                          Good thinking.

One thing I noticed about Athens is the lack of open spaces and parks. It really is overbuilt. I was walking through some parks (the few that there are) looking for a place to rest a bit and kept running into couples. I see a bench in a dark spot and think "great, I'll sit here for a minute" and when I get near there's a couple there fondling

And the trees have like half a square meter of earth each, they're practically growing out of concrete in Athens, you have to see it to believe it...

By the way, I read an interesting article about post olympic Athens here in the domestic press. It said that olympics facilities weren't thought out very well. Most are overcapacitated, badly positioned, maintenance is very expensive and local sports teams are happy with their old facilities and don't even want the new. Some are for sports without local tradition altogether. And it said that most are just standing empty and locked, some even guarded by army and police. That's a shame.

The article also said that police is looking to exploit the olympic surveillance system installed on the streets for crime prevention and such. I guess you can lobby that they put some cameras in your neighbourhood and crime will likely go away.
