    No medical condition here (afaik anyway lol). It's more to maintain my weight - I'm already mildly overweight (at 6 foot tall, I weight at uhh 220-230). My metabolism is low so I do have to be aware of what I put into my body. What I really need is to hit the gym and on a regularly basis too. However it's easier said than done.

        Maybe you should dump the morning apple. It's probably giving you a sugar rush from which you crash later on. Apples really don't have any nutritive value anyway. They're pretty much just sugar, water, and fiber. Try something with more complex carbs instead, maybe puffed brown rice or bran cereal.

          True. I had a similar problem (grew overweight because I didn't take care and had a low metabolism, now a lightweight after two successful low-scale diets )

          I was a student during the time of weight-stability between my two diets, and thus I didn't really have a daily routine. However, the most "daily" aspect of my routine was the lunch at the uni restaurant. My rules of thumb were:
          - pretty much always avoid fat. It's fat that I was trying to lose, or at least not to gain.
          - Avoid fast sugars, except fruit. Since vitamins are good, vitamin juice is acceptable, if considered as the source of fast sugar for the meal.
          - Eat slow-sugars at lunch. A good rule of thumb is to eat in preparation for the incoming effort (the afternoon), rather than to make up for past effort.
          - eat veggies whenever they're available. I can't go wrong with veggies, unless I don't eat anything else.

          Now, I don't think I've ever lived as healthily as during that time, especially in the periods where my sleep püatterns weren't messed up. In particular, I felt much less quickly tired than usual. I think that's because I had a good combination of the three components:
          - reasonable intake of sugar (they're the ones who provide actual energy, so I didn't shun them)
          - vitamins, either in form of fruit and vegetables, or in form of vitamin juice (you might want to try the vitamin pills if you're into it, I never tried myself). My supermarkt sells such juices without added sugars.
          - easy-to digest foods, that weren't too tiring after lunch (though I was often useless in the 30 first minutes after eating)

          What I really need is to hit the gym and on a regularly basis too. However it's easier said than done.

          Swimming gooooooood
          Gym is baaaaaaaaaaad

          Generally speaking, gyms are good for people who wish to develop their muscle, which generally results in mass increase. For those who rather wish to lose fat, the intense effort at gym isn't good. Endurance efforts are better, and swimming is great all around. If you can spend two-three consecutive hours swimming sometime in the week, it will help.
          I have much trouble with self-discipline, and I've noticed it worked better when I had a routine with reliable friends

            However in the afternoon I go into this low energy stump and would like to have something to help perk me up.
            Start eating decent, English-styled breakfasts.

                  If you're planning to build some muscles, this is a horrible piece of advice. Works for dropping your weight, though.

                  and the sugars in fruit are simple sugars... you really need to learn more about nutrition... simple sugars = good... complex sugars = bad (processed foods)
                  Ehh, it's really not that simple even if you reverse the "good" and the "bad" there. If more complex sugars would be automatically a better thing for us, we'd be eating trees instead of vegetables or fruits.

                  If you want to keep it really simple, just remember that more refined = BAD.

                    Pasta is the archetype of slow sugary food. That's what endurance athletes eat before a continuous effort.
                    There's also rice, and all kind of beans. Wheat-based foods are also a good source of slow sugars IIRC (including cereal, when it's not a sugar-bomb). Simple bread is, in general, a good addition to any meal.

                      Indeed. Gym is contra-productive for those who want to lose weight (fat). Swimming is useless for those who want to gain weight (muscle).

                              Individual components are optional, Sava. Some people have black pudding, mushrooms, fried bread (all ugh for me).

                              I was able to get a bacon, eggs & black bean breakfast in the Guatemalan jungle, so beans can't be that wierd.
