Benson's intent to move to San Antonio permanently was revealed in a Times-Picayune article (yesterday, I think).

The owner is finally realizing that Jacksonville is too small a market to have a franchise. It's a million people including suburbs and sattilite cities. The city gets the games blacked out on a regular basis, since they just don't have the base to get enough people buying tickets. The market is large enough to support the team, they just built the stadium too big. Doesn't it seat 75,000+? That easily makes it the largest stadium in the NFL. With a stadium that large, it's hard to sell out the game. Non sell-out games get blacked out. All they'd have to do is cut the number of seats... build more luxury boxes or something. The Saints have said that playing in Tiger Stadium was their first option. If that is a no-go officially, their second option would be playing their home games in San Antonio. I do not see what possible impediments there could be for that? After their "home opener" in New Jersey, they do not have another home game officially until October 2. Tiger Stadium, last I heard, was still having its own problems just being 100% ready for the LSU games. Still, if it's ready enough to handle LSU, it can handle the Saints. Not sure about the wisdom of having them both there the same weekend, though.Solomwi is very wise. - Imran SiddiquiComment
