I didn't mean to criticize! I thought I was being rather tactful. On the other hand, Notre Dame did have a better record than Nebraska last year, with a much tougher schedule.

Yeah, we did suck last year. Hopefully Weis has better luck than Callahan in switching to a new system. Should do, as Willingham's offense is a lot more similar to Weis' than Solich's was to Callahan's. The right type of players should already be in the Notre Dame system.

Some details for Pekka... There are 120 college teams in Division I-A, the top division in college football. Over the history of football in the US -- which is dominated by college football, not the NFL -- Nebraska has been one of a handful of teams consistently at the top. It's not that the NFL is anything to sneeze at, but to judge a Nebraska player by where or whether you expect him to end up in the NFL is not giving his time at Nebraska enough attention. I would wager that Nebraska has more of a die-hard following than the vast majority of NFL teams. Certainly, they've sold out their 75,000 seat stadium for every game for several decades.

One of the classic rivalries in college football is Nebraska versus Oklahoma. Bigger than Notre Dame versus Michigan and about the same as USC versus Notre Dame and Ohio State versus Michigan. The only legitimate knock that Nebraska has against it is that it plays a comparatively easy schedule.

There are some American football teams in Finland. Helsinki has 2 I think. We even have our own national league, dubbed "maple league". I remember practicing with melonball for 4 hours in school. So there are some players and teams, but it has a pretty marginal status here.

nice article. It's always kind of weird in a way to have some talented guy to play sports who comes from place where he basically has to do it on his own, all the way. And then goes and succeeds in high level where that sport is very much appreciated and followed. It's like some Chinese guy coming out and going to NHL. JUst takes extra talent and effort, but when someone makes it like that, it's always special.
