      Come to Texas, Sava. Come on. I get so few thrills. Come on.

        actually, I was in Texas once...

        on a train going to Arizona, we crossed through somewhere in the north... I felt a disturbance in the force.

        It smelled like ****.

        When we eventually nuke Texas, I'll come down to piss on what's left of you.

          Eh, this merely reverts conditions to the pre-Big Mac era. Nothing to see here, move along...

            Actually, I think it's quite a few less calories than the pre-Big Mac era...
            I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                    When people say "All we need is more old people." They should clarify whether they only mean biologically aged people or just people who have lived for a relatively long period of time (but still biologically 'young'), or both since discoveries like this are exactly the sort of thing that will make that distinction meaningful.

                    I suspect we are done increasing life expectancy in isolation of changes to the aging process. Future developments, this one likely included will increase lifespan not by extending the period of infirmity and debilitation that we think of as what it means to be 'old' but rather by extending the 'youth-span' that precedes it.

                    So with that in mind why do people necessarily think that having "more old people" would be any sort of bad thing?

                          It is exciting to see that biological research is progressing so rapidly. I really hope to live to 2050 (see no reason why I shouldn;t, baring random accidents).

                            Is there some way to turn those off? I'm on dialup at home right now and dread opening threads that have been posted in by Kuciwalker.

                              Under IE

                              Internet Options -> Advanced
                              look under the multimedia section and disable everything (or just images, but if you are dial up you want to disable everything).
