I don't like a trade war but there comes a point when you have to assess the longer term. If the US can ignore NAFTA here with no consequences what will stop them from doing so again?
Is there any way we could slap a tariff on natural gas that had to be PAID by the US consumers. I want the 4 billion dollarsYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Collecting the money in tariffs is generally a better idea, unless there's a commodity like oil or gas which is in such strong demand at such high prices that an export tax will not hurt exports too much.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

But yeah, I'd be in favour of putting an export tax on all energy products to the US until this is resolved. Hydro, oil, natural gas, coal.
Do it on an increasing basis. Start at a dollar a barrel, and move from there...12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

The irony is that Canada would be better off if it stopped clear cutting tree in order to mass produce cheap 2x4s.
More jobs would be created in Canada through selective cutting of high quality lumber that could be used in Canadian factories too make other products.
The problem is the Canadian logging industry isn't willing to invest in new sawmills that can produce high quality lumber.Golfing since 67

Canada steps up when we see the cause as just. Thats why we have troops in Afghanistan ( you know . . . that place where AQ ACTUALLY WAS (and is).
Also . . we manage to be every bit as free as the Americans without being hated anywhere near as much worldwide ( some of that is superpower envy but not all of it)You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

This lumber thing is an example-- because the US is big and powerful, the attitudeseems to be "screw Canada and screw any panel decision we don't like"
So we don't SELL timberlands to forestry interests-- DEAL with it !!
