Yeah, I remember using a Mac a few years ago and it seemed to do nothing but crash constantly. And it was ugly...

I buy what works for me, and that happens to be Apple products.
I've used them for years — at home, in school and at work — and have rarely had problems with them, aside from an occasional software glitch (and even then, mostly at work). So, FWIW, I'd recommend Apple based on my experience.
I don't particularly care if you're a Windows fanatic or Apple fanatic. I'm simply passing on what works for me, and that's been Apple.

I love when people bring up the how "compatibable" Macs are when so much software can't even run on them. Plus, there are so many problems when Macs have to communicate with Windows in a business enviornment. Half the stuff generated on Macs in our office and is then sent to clients in Windows enviornment won't look right... now that's real compatibilityKeep on Civin'

If I can't run 13 programs at the same time without worrying my machine is goona crap out on me, I don't want it.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

All the Macs I have used in my life crahed constantly, and they have a lot less games availible. Oh, and I must mention that they are underpowered for thier cost. I have a good firewall and have good antivirus software on my Compaq I'm on right now and havent had a virus or noticeable spyware infection since I got it.

None of my boxes, nor those of my roommates (under my care) have spyware or virii; personally, I find a lot of the conventions in OS X to be irritating and troublesome (such as the home/end key problem, and the inability to have window focus change based on cursor position); graphics is a matter of debate.B♭3

FWIW, I update Windows XP every time an update is released; use Firefox myself, and have tried to do what I can to get it set up so the other users did too; run Spybot/AdAware/Microsoft AntiSpyware or whatever it's called...and still there is junk stuck on here: everytime IE is opened, a huge toolbar w/ all kinds of useless ad links pops up.
Stop going to pr0n sites.
FWIW, I run those three programs too, coupled with McAfee AV... and the only junk that opens up when I click IE is IE 7 Beta 1.B♭3

Personally, this is how I like my UI: simple, snappy, with special effects that I can disable.
Thus, it currently stands as:
Fluxbox > WinXP > OS X ~ KDE > WinVista > Gnome.
Fluxbox is simple and snappy, extraordinarily customizeable. Alas, there's a paucity of special effects, but I don't mind. WinXP is far more customizeable than OS X, largely because I can disable most of the effects and drop it into Classic w/ XP Start Menu. OS X, I can tweak the colors... and that's about it. Vista, I can do the same, but the fact that Beta 1 requires me to have a fairly powerful graphics card for it to not be sluggish... KDE has the customization and special effects, but it's not as snappy as I'd like; and Gnome, well, Gnome just sucks. I can't stand spatial browsing.B♭3
