Well, when you some day finish your study and enter RL you'll discover that you use a lot of time to handle exceptions and tell if you think there are a possiblity of a such

Automatic systems can make many things, but they also have limtations. What you suggests isn't KISS wich is one of the most important concepts. One of my old schoolmates (seventh class/13 y old) is an SAS pilot and he tells that they could land on autopilot every time, but they don't. Why ? Not because of some macho thinking, but simply because that gives experience to the moment when the sh!t hits the fan.

Lot's of talk about lack of pressure, but I don't think there necessarily was any loss of cabin pressure. It sounds instead as if the ventilation was malfunctioning so that the passengers were effectively sealed in like bugs in a jar with no air holes punched in the lid. The masks were probably manually deployed by the pilot before he passed out. I wouldn't be surprised if the ineffectiveness of the masks was related to the original ventilation issue, unless it turns out that the masks rely on bottled O2.

There must have been loss of cabin pressure, otherwise there would have been no need to release the masks.

You are really a strange person. For moments you display intelligence just for seconds later to fall back to caveman level.

No, I'm just amazed by your expertise in aviation, software engineering, world politics, mathematics and fixing printers.

Anyway I have to go to sleep now. I assume you have to work tomorrow also, but I have to wake up in... less than 3 hours.. NAARHG!

One thing that always has been a mystery to me is how printers works - I leave that to other people

Well, unless I'm wrong, then I'm close to twice your age, has an unsatisfiable curiosity and have worked with SW for more than 20 years - I might have some knowledge you don't have

Still have nine hours to my job is calling - what job do you have that need your attention four o'clock in the morning ?

You are lucky that I didn't hit the bunk yet (wrote few e-mails) so you can enjoy my words of truth.

Yes, years gives you experience fixing printers. I give you that much. I don't know a lot about them so.. I guess you're right.

4AM is when I have to leave already. It's because I'm not in my place now, I'm at dads because I attended this big party yesterday so I have to make quite a trip back.

Now to sleep. I suggest you get some sleep too, plenty of broken printers tomorrow.

The masks provide oxygen. Lack of pressure is not the usual way people can't get enough oxygen. more often it is due to poor ventilation. Lack of ventilation on an aircraft is just as asphyxiating as it is on solid ground. The crew had reported that they had trouble with their air conditioning. That is quite different from a loss of pressure.

Granted it could come out that they lost cabin pressure but it doesn't seem to be a given at this point.
