Hard to choose between Chicago Style and New York Style. If you find a good place for eithier, they are both awesome. There is a place in Nashville called Obie's that makes a really deep dish version called a skillet pizza. It may be the best pizza I have ever had.

is that google earth? I tried it in my neighborhood. The amazing thing is it doesn't even show all the restaurants. It missed the fatburger in my neighborhood.

Imagine that picture if it showed all the restaurants.

          GePap:

Hmmm... John's Pizzeria sounds good, but unfortunately I won't have time for a whole pie. I'm actually going through NYC on route to Texas via Greyhound (don't ask). Although I'll probably end up getting a couple slices to bring with me on the bus.

So any advice (from anyone) about where I can pick up some good slices? Thin crust would be preferable (North End, Boston style -where I grew up- is almost exclusively thin crust and I miss it terribly), although any style pizza will do as long as its high quality.

Your map reminds me of why I started this thread. There are so many places. Thats why I need help making the best decision possible... I won't be back in the NE US for a while. Thus, no good pizza for far too long.

            What's in Texas?

That picture was only pizzas. All the restaurants would have just been one big ocean of fork and knife icons..

The real test would be for those that don't live in Chicago or New York vote the best pizza. But it doesn't matter who votes because Chicago Pizza is that much better.

Sadly, not really. I mean, you will find about a dozen pizza places within a 5 block radius of the station, but all of it is OK, not stellar. All of it should be thin anyways- deep dish or thicker style is not particularly common in NYC.

Though stick to 8th Avenue and avoid going into Times Square, cause the stuff there won;t be any better and probably pricier.

As for the "nuts" Chicago lovers- Pizza is made with bread dough, NOT pastry dough. So Chicago "pizza" is a cheese and tomato sauce pie, but it sure isn't pizza.

That many of you like that type of pie is fine, your choice, but it most certainly is no more great pizza than a stellar pizza bagel is great pizza.

Oh, and the slice place I spoke of was Joe's Pizza (you can see it in the map posted).

How much time do you have anyways? In about 15 minutes you can take the A or C train down to West 4th Street, get a couple of slices in Joe's (top notch slices of pizza) and be back, though I would not recommend trying this with anything less than 1 hour layover)

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll stick to 8th and the immediate area for simplicity. I'll also just have gotten off an overnight bus from Montreal, so I may well be too groggy to want to ride the subway with all kinds of luggage (I'd probably lose it). But I might be up for an adventure, who knows.

I'm sure they have some form of acceptable pizza in New York, but I agree that NY style pizza blows. Gimme Chicago any day.

I never had a decent piece of pizza in Europe. But by all means, have all you want.
