Quite agree except that he should be lowered in small steps in the process.

Nonetheless, this ended in 1991, and so using it as an excuse to justify the invasion in 2003 in order to save his subjects is disingenuous. You can't prevent something that happened 13 years ago and has ended.

Tell that to those that tried to rebel against him - Saddam both managed to kill those raising against him and the usual suspects.

The 91 rebellion was just the largest instance of resistance to his rule.

His secret service was very active and by all abouts killed tens of thousands in the decade prior to the last invasion. There is no disputing this, the mass graves have been found.

on the evolution of casualties,

the last thing i read was that the insurgents/freedom fighters are getting bombs from iran, especially designed to blow up armoured vehicles. and the big fear now is that they would learn to make these things themselves. i don't know what the impact of these will be, but it can't be good. plus, it shows that you are not only fighting the insurgency, but also a large part of the arab world. do you really believe that this fight will die out ?

and as far as the mass graves go, they were already some of them present in the mid eighties. did you have other moral viewpoints at that time ?
