Sure they are, except they arent prepared for coca cola - besides, people are getting much older than they are supposed to be seen from an evolutionary standpoint .
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

so how did you know you needed a root canal?

        did you have tooth pain?

I currently have no dental insurance (or medical insurance). And I haven't been to the dentist since I was in the navy back in 1999. . I figured since I have no pain, I must be okay. But I know sometimes this isn't the case.

I should go to the dental school. But I'm not sure if I want students working on my teeth. It really hurts when they make a mistake .

but I hear most dentists won't even accept patients without dental insurance. Most people have no choice but to go to the dental school in my city. but you have to wait in line for hours, and they don't do everybody.

          poor blackcat

I sympathize. I've been ****ed royally by dentists and even when i gave all my good money to allegendly top ones I've been ****ed more. anyway hang in there. godaammit that's a slap on your immortality feeling right there. we get old and we'll die and I'm ok with that but I don't want to have to endure all that crap. for example now my crown (the one and only i have) is hitting my other tooth below and it feels strange when i talk. i wish i was spanish that way i wouldnt have to say "s" and all would be fine. but yes. anyway get yourself a good dentist that's what i did eventually. but you know the fairytale you have to kiss a lot of frogs.

You don't before x-rays , but severe pain is a good indicator.

If I were you, I would go for a check as soon as possible - usually I go to dentist every six month; get them shined up and checked, but I also have made such a stint as you have with regretable results.

Here such a visit costs approx 30 $ and catches things up front - it is cheaper to get a small hole fixed than a root channel.

What I described in the OT costed me a little over 1200 $ but at least I got a third back from insurance, so it only costed two months of surplus. Sadly, dentist care isn't for free here as medical care is.

that's one thing I liked about the Navy. They force you to go to the dentist, whether you want to or not. . It's difficult for me to go when I have no tooth pain.

Then you should try my dentist. He has a cute little turkish girl that calls me each six months for a new check, and she doesn't take a no for an answer

eh? that's odd. my root canal was 4 meetings and i didnt feel a thing. she hit me with the needle after she had placed a cherry thingy that had already made it numb. but no pain at all. not before not after. she also had a computer thingy that measures milimeters with lazer beams dont know why. it was when the crown got in by another one that the problems started with malloclusion. we're talking extreme pain.

That is because the root is dead - then there isn't any pain wich was the case of my first such thing.

the root (3 of them) wasnt dead when she started working on them. i dont think that's supposed to happen blackcat. be on the safe side and ask for a second opinion.
i never heard of a dentist stopping then anesthitizing then starting again?

Ouch! I'd take toothache over that any day of the week.

BlackCat, wait... you brushed teeth in the morning for 40 years? Respect.

If the correct nerves are sedated, then no pain. I have three of these and two of them was painless (one was obvious because the root was dead), but the third was a problem. I got three sedations that was supposed to do the job, and belive me, they did - left part of my face and tounge was totally numb except that damn little tooth. What he did was drill the sedated part until I "yelled", then poured sedation directly on the tooth after wich he could drill again for some time.
