As far as I know, it's the territory itself. Nevermind what resources may or may not be there, the land itself is worth fighting over. There isn't much unclaimed land on the planet anymore, so everyone is fighting for whatever is left.

It definitely won't . If I've learnt anything about the Pakistani establishment , it has taught me that they will "manufacture" a dispute with Kashmir and use that as excuse to invade Kashmir . Not only that , but Kashmir is not strong enough to resist any of the powers that surround it ( India , Pakistan , or China ) . If it has to go to some nation , then I hope it goes to the only democratic one of the three .

Why would China be interested in Kashmir? I thought this was a purely India-Pakistan dispute? Maybe I'm pretty ignorant, but I didn't know China had a vested interest in what's going on in Kashmir...

IIRC, China has occupied a slice of Cashmir along Cashmir's eastern border.

After sifting through some sources, China controls an area called the Aksai Chin. According to a number of non-Indian, non-Chinese sources, the Chinese claim is strong.

At any rate, the PRC has never claimed sovereignity over the entire Kashmir, just the area north of the traditional boderline (as opposed to the "McMahon Line"). If this area overlaps with Kashmiran territory, I reckon it is incidental.

india, pakistan and china should all get out of kashmir and let it be independent, it would solve the dispute and it's what most of the people want. of course it will never happen, but there you go
