    First Happy Birthday.
My 18th was in Boot Camp. My 19th was kissing 3 very pretty girls. My 20th was 300 miles north of Hawaii heading for Long Beach. But the worst was Dec 31, 1963. I had the duty and we just sail in to Hong Kong. New Years eve and on duty.

Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Wait until you get on board ship and a fella that goes by the name of Mary takes something else entirely.

That sucks... if it's any help to you, I spent my 20th b-day inside too. Except I was then private, early stages, meaning I was more like a maggot, and that day we didn't even get permission to smoke one single cigarette, because we 'sucked so much'. Everything was lead, even the morning piss. No chance in hell to go to the cafeteria to have a coffee or something. I think it was PT most parts of the day. But at least I got to do push ups, run and .. well.. let's just say it was not what I expected from my 20th b-day .

In the Cav we got drunk on our birthdays, pretty much no matter where we were. It was pretty good that way. Since we trained all the frigging time it was nice that they would cut some slack on that day. No reports or anything as long as you didn't go off on them.
