  • Comics as a Kid

When I was a kid, I used to read a whole bunch of comics, from Richie Rich to Spiderman, to Family Circus and the Far Side...and yes, even Bloom County.

But I have to say that my most favorite is "Calvin and Hobbes". Man, I think that comic influenced me so much. I learned so much pranks and stuff from that comic that it's crazy. But in a weird way, I feel it also made me think more. When Calvin and Hobbes talked about life, death, philosophy, and all those deep things...I think I've kept that with me.

Anyway, I just bought the "Essential Calvin and Hobbes" and call me a loser, but I'm cracking up hard as I re-read all these comics. Damn, good times. Good times. Has any old comic ever really influenced you like this?

A sample of Calvin and Hobbes...

Despot-(1a) : a ruler with absolute power and authority (1b) : a person exercising power tyrannically
Beyond Alpha Centauri-Witness the glory of Sheng-ji Yang
    *****Citizen of the Hive****

Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes. All else pales.

And yes, I have the books.

The obligatory "All your base" comic I found via the intraweb.

Dude, which one was the one where C and H go on a trek with peanut butter sandwiches and start ragging on each other? In my move to my current house, I had to get rid of my old comic books and can't remember which one it was...

          C&H

I did like Peanuts as well. And The Far Side was just classic .

That probably describes about a quarter of all C&H strips...

Far Side got old quick. C & H does indeed still rule. As did/does Bloom County.

I have a few of both.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I still do, though a couple of them are sorta beat up . And Outland, too. My local paper never picked up Opus Returns, though...I've never seen it.

It's okay, more nostalgic than anything. Steve Dallas is older of course.

Holy crap dude, you are a saint.

C&H was one of the most influential comic books I've had. CandH, Bloom County, and Far Side. Maybe that's why a lot of people I meet think I'm either a rascal, eccentric, or downright weird.

Wasn't Bloom County, Opus, and Outland basically the same characters? In the Sunday paper as a kid, I remember them all being the same characters, but having different names.
