The boy told investigators he and the teacher had sex in a classroom, her house and once in a vehicle while his 15-year-old cousin drove. He said Lafave told him her marriage was in trouble and that she was aroused by the fact that having sex with him was not allowed.

I agree, there is a huge difference between having sex with a 7 yearold and having sex with a 14 yearold

one is not OK because of power issues, and how we (as a culture) treat people as kids until they are 18 (or older)

the other is no OK period

It is my opinion that the age of consent be lowered for males . We're built to f*** earlier in life ( sexual peak it between 16 and 20 , IIRC ) .

Point is , the feminists will then lobby to have the female age of consent lowered . I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing .

actually, females reach sexual maturity before males..

and are generally more mature

18 or 16 is a good age, I think, expecially with culture as it is (where parents take care of their kids sometimes until their kids are 30)

Age of consent has more to do with judgement than sexual potency. Our culture overencourages males and underencourages females when it comes to sex, so teenage males are likelier than teenage females to do stupid things when the age of consent is lowered to include them. Sex is good all around, but immature individuals are likelier to do stupid things like risk stds and pregnancy.

It's the defense attorney's job to do whatever it can to avoid or minimize penalties for the client. A tactic like "she's just too gosh-darn pretty to go to jail!" may be stupid, but it's valid for their purpose. Logic and emotions are often both utilized, by both the prosecution and defense. Juries are weird, they just may buy it.

the (wo)man who gets into a bad relationship when young could hvae their future relationships colored by that

besides the years being emotionally exploited and the like

while it happens to people of all ages, it happens far more to the young

The funny thing is that Americans seem to think that clueless juries improve the administration of justice.
