    • Never heard anything about Russians going after our women astronauts but could you blame them if they did? They've probably been in space far to long and there just looking for some action. I mean masturbation in a zero gravity environment isn't exactly a good idea.

I personally think that the best idea is to just send crazy people to start with. I am certain there are no shortage of people who would remain relatively sane when cooped up in a tin can for 6 months. Problem being they traditionally don't make good astronauts material, because any astronaut is going to be some kind of extroverted super overachiever and the kind of person who can stay sane in a can is going to be something of an introverted lazy bum. It would actually be better to say that astronauts don't make good spacefarers, it would be nessecary to select and train people with good space faring traits.

The main problem with online gaming from an interplanetary spaceship is latency. Not just 500ms or a few s, but minutes, or hours! Forums would still work pretty well though (with the right communication protocols and modified forum software) and any kind of game with really slow turns (like PBEM games). Imagine the excuses "Sorry guys, couldn't submit the turn. Solar flare."

But it would be quite possible to carry nearly every (good) movie and game known to man, and that would be quite a lot of singeplayer entertainment.

        • I have heard that russians are more sexist then the west

like if a female physicist wanted a post, the top people would ask eachother if any of them wanted to have sex with her, if none did then she would not get the position

this might be all heresy, but I do know that russian physics was/is? a lot more harsh/conservative then american physics

          • good point. Those one one of the questions I keep meaning to ask Nasa. I really want to go to a press conference and ask them if they masturbate.

NASA takes themselves way too seriously. These are important questions. Imagine how far you could shoot your load in a microgravity environment? That's kind of disgusting I know. Other people have to inahale the stuff. So i'd imagine you would use a sock. But do they do it in front of other people?

            • I imagine mature women would become more attractive in zero gravity.

They could use it as a selling point when recruiting female astronauts. "Have a full set of personal photos taken while orbiting, free of charge."

                • In about 10 minutes we should know whether they will attempt the final landing opportunity for today.

                    • We're that close to the decision being taken for the last try today, yes. If they go for landing, it will be at 6:22 EDT, 12:22 CET.

I think they'll go for it; the cloud video they're showing at mission control looks much more scattered than 1½ hours ago.

We'll see about it any minute now.

                      • It's off. Called off for 24 hours, it won't land until tomorrow. Cloud cover is still too thick over Kennedy, although technically the weather situation is "go" at this moment, ground control thinks it's too unstable to attempt a landing.

                        /me twiddles thumbs

Two opportunities tomorrow at Kennedy: 5:08 a.m. and 6:43 a.m. And two opportunities at Edwards: 8:13 a.m. and 9:48 a.m., all times EDT.

                            • this is what happens when you put a space center in florida.

yeah, yeah I know. It's more efficient to be closer to the equater. And taking off over water is preferrible when bad things happen...
