  • Space Shuttle to fly again tomorrow

I use the term fly loosely.

This really is an outdated design, but it's all we got. I'm not really in support of manned space flight anymore, but you gotta admit it's kind of cool sending people up into space.

Yes, it will lift-off at 3:51 p.m. EDT, and I'll be sure to watch it at NASA-TV. I hope they put a live camera on the Shuttle itself like they did with Columbia STS-107.

My thoughts are with the Discovery crew, I'm confident everything will go well.

3.51 EDT is how much in GMT?

GMT is irrelevant, since it doesn't account for DST. But if you're in Britain, it'll be 8:51 p.m. tomorrow. Of course you want to tune into NASA-TV well in advance of that.

I wonder if I can see it from here. I know they could be seen from Jacksonville. I just need to be down at the beach by 3:30.

Be forewarned that NASA asserts a 40% chance of the launch being delayed for 24-48 hours due to weather, up from 30% yesterday.

that's what happens when you launch from such a rainy state. sunshine state my ass.

yeah I know, it's more efficient to launch from a site further south. And it's better to not have the shuttle fly over land, as they sometimes explode into a ball of flame.

The Russians don't launch from French Guyana, last I heard.

Edit: Whaddaya know, they're actually planning on using Kourou as an alternative launch site to Baikonur.

                            Retire the white elephant already!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
