  • Rehnquist out tomorrow?

According to Daily Kos, the buzz in DC is that the chief justice will announce retirement tomorrow. It's rumor at this point.

Two SCOTUS vacancies at once, and Bush gets to fill them? Be still my beating heart...

    I'm afraid, very afraid.

Well, I'm not sure if this is true, but isn't "Be still my beating heart" usually used for things you think are fantastically good?

        a) It could be intense sarcasm
        b) It could mean I want the palpitations of terror to subside

        or

        c) It could mean I'd rather die instead of see Bush get to pick 2 judges.

Or maybe even d) all of the above.

2 at once? When do the senators break out weapons?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Hmmm, that gave the amusing thought of the Senators having a musical rumble a la West Side Story. Harry Reid as Riff and Bill Frist as Bernardo. But who would be Tony? Russ Feingold?

I'm glad Bush gets to nominate two new justices. This way, the court will finally have the conservative court we've all been looking for, and do away with those damn liberal activist judges.

Given that I've assigned the role of the Sharks to the GOP, it would have to be a Republican.

                      Speaking of which...

What defines a judge "legislating from the bench?" I'm curious as to what those opposed to "judicial activism" would say.
