unconfirmed rumors in intelligence circles indicate that the Israeli government actually warned London of the attacks “a couple of days” previous. Israel has apparently given other warnings about possible attacks that turned out to be aborted operations. The British government did not want to disrupt the G-8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, or call off visits by foreign dignitaries to London, hoping this would be another false alarm.

Well, I did see a report where a cabbie was interviewed in which he stated that there was alot more police out since yesterday. Now, this could of course have to do with the G8...then again, maybe not.

Also, all personel (police, ambulance etc..) were very quickly at the scenes.

Yes I think too. Their network was weakened considerably it seems. Their training camps got blown up and it's hard to find countries that provide shelter since Afghanistan.

We must stop to think there even is such a thing as a network. These are all individual cells with (mostly) common goal.

Submitted without comment (because its vileness stands all by itself):

"My first thought when I heard - just on a personal basis, when I heard there had been this attack and I saw the futures this morning, which were really in the tank, I thought, 'Hmmm, time to buy.'"

I'll say it. The attacks were successfull. They showed that they will continue. The current effort to prevent further attacks is a failure. Let's talk about the causes.

That might be true, but what should Blair etc have done with this knowledge besides prepare police and rescue ?

I intentionally deleted the last line of my response in the topped thread to put it here.

                              It was.

And to the perpetrators...after the mourning, we'll find you.

                              'nuff said.

That sums up my political feelings on the subject.

If we packed up and left them to their swealtering sandbox tomorrow, it would not matter.

They'd find another reason to hate us.

We don't buy enough oil...we buy too much oil, or we're just plain not Islamic enough for them.

                              Something.

                              Anything

The puppet masters in the ME need a villain to maintain control, and we're it, no matter what we do.

                              So there's only one response.

When they push, we push back harder.
