  • He has had it removed. As his coach says his sequence of medical problems are now "verging on the bizarre".

Heck lets give Charlie another go - he looked much better in NZ this summer than he did last summer. Even Goode is worth a go if we have a kicking game in mind. Might as well try the options - got very little to lose against such a well performing NZ outfit.

    • The problem with so mnay of the regular posters in this thread being SH is that now the NH domestic rugby season has started you are not able to contribute because you don't get to see the games.

Roll on the autumn tours (where the Wallabies can set a new record of nine straight losses if they try hard enough).

      • You're backing a Wales win against the Wallabies then?
That must've been a tough call?

        • Kind of. I'm not supporting them as such but I rather expect them to beat the Wallabies yes. And if I sniff a winner I am joining that bandwagon toute suite.

There weren't that many NH people to watch the match I played Thursday evening either...
I hate it when I play a match during the week, AND have to work the day after. Imagine how you feel after a rugby match, a good couscous with the rest of the team and some red wine, only 4 hours of sleep and then having to work all day. And answering people who tell you "it wasn't a hard match, your head is almost bruiseless" that yeah, I only managed to get a painful knee. And I have to wake up early tomorrow.

            • Post your team's match fixtures. I'll pop over the border and cheer you on. And be water boy. Taking out glasses of vino rosso whenever you look like you're ailing.

Oh, and the answer to the problem of having to work the next day after a match is simple. Turn professional.

Good grief. Book the next day off work.

Bath fielded their French winger Bory (formerly with Castres?) on Saturday – he scored a nice interception try but he never shut his mouth for a second. He talked at the officials all the time – was he known for this in France?

                Tigers 40 - Baaarrfff 26

Interesting end to the game – Ellis is on the refs blind side at a Bath defensive scrum on their five metre line and quite clearly kicks the ball out from under the number 8’s feet. Jennings then nips through and scores for us and then an almighty punch up breaks out as the bath lads were understandably upset. But none of the write ups I have read mentioned what Ellis did or the scuffle afterwards and no one has been cited despite a lot of swinging arms. Also the BBC match report claims big Jim Hamilton wasn’t used – which rather surprised me as he replaced Ben Kay on about the sixty minute mark. Journos eh?

Our young winger Varndell has just turned twenty but after another brace Saturday Patty Howard is pushing him for an England call up. He probably deserves it.

                • P*ssing down rain here yesterday. I had a choice of listening to Leeds -v- Wasps or Gloucester -v- Bristol. I went for the Leeds match to hear what J. Marshall was up to. He seemed to do all right in a team that simply wasn't good enough in the second half**. But the most interesting thing was that the feed was direct from the ground with no studio input. The microphones were left open for the whole broadcast, even through half time, and after the match. Thus the listener was privy to the private thoughts of the commentators. Taking an awful risk of defamatory and/or vulgarity going to air.

**Of the three Kiwi imports, only Mehrtens, down in first division, seems to be having an impact with Quins. They're doing well and he seems to be contributing well, even if against lesser oppo. Carlos and J. Marshall haven't yet worked any wonders.

                  • I haven't seen Leeds yet but in the case of Carlos at Saints he is having to work behind a pack that isn't doing much to help him. Newcastle bossed them up front this weekend.

Interesting about that live feed...there is always a very real risk of bad language at Leeds.

                      • And Bill Young. His days are/were numbered anyway. Not good enough in the front row. They're going to try out some youth up front. But resting Mortlock isn't a bad idea. He had injury after injury this year, always rushing back into the team without sufficient preparation.

Hodgeson should certainly have another go, he just went through a bad spell around the 6 Nations which also affected his Sale game (I go to their games). After a brief period off to heal a groin strain he finished last season well and was good in the Lions games.

He has had a good start to this season too from what I've seen. Of course the fact he is Halifax born and bred and went to the same school as me (2 years above) is neither here nor there

Obviously. For instance, those people I know who were born in the same town as I and were in the same school as me I'd never recommend for any rugby team. So you can't be biased.

                              • At least his retirement should stop the silly talk of playing Lewsey at centre. Josh now goes to fullback and lets get Tinders and Smith in the centres.

I am sure you noticed that Tigers won at Leeds despite Pat making 13 changes to the 22 that beat Bath last week. One of Leeds major problems seems to be discipline - gave away far too many penatlies.

Insanely busy at work once again - hopefully will calm down a bit ready for the Internationals.

I am sure everyone has noticed Wasps and Tigers sit atop the pile yet again?
