        Could also try cutting spending.

In the case of Nova Scotia, it is only $174 million.

They just inked a deal with the fed that is worth far more than that in resource revenue.

Take any 1000 citizens and there will be some small number who are seriously effected. Expose 10's of thousands and you will have more than a few ruined lives to profit off of.

VLTs in bars and public places are a moral abomination. Any democrat of merely pedestrian intelligence should be able to understand that.
Public places I can see, and I don't think the government should be involved with lotteries or gambling (the "stupid" tax), but that's entirely different from banning the devices.

If people feel compelled to gamble away all their money, fine with me.

People can be addicted to pretty much anything these days. Banning the devices to make up for their mental deficiencies is crazy.

If the government shouldn't benefit from gambling, who should?

                Of course.

But seriously, most of the backlash against VLTs is based on them being in bars and other public places. If people want to go to casinos, I agree they should be able to. The real problem is the casinos being brought to the corner store or local pub.

I see no explanation anywhere what VLT stands for...so what is it?

Just to annoy nye, you should do like Sweden and have a state alcohol monopoly.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?
